As a mom of a child with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), I understand how overwhelming this part of parenting can be. For a basic understanding of all of the types of sensory issues your child may encounter, I recommend reading “The Out of Sync Child” by Carol Kranowitz. She also has a book full of ideas & activities called “The Out of Synch Child has fun.”
If you suspect your child has ADD or ADHD, you might want to explore potential sensory processing issues first. Talk to your pediatrician and pursue an assessment with a Pediatric Occupational Therapist in your area. Often times, these behaviors can look similar, but the root cause can be different, which makes the treatment plans different.
Take some deep breaths, give yourself and your child grace, and reach out for help!
